Ingredients

For the mozzarella sticks
  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese sticks Cut in half for easier handling.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour You can substitute half with cornstarch for a lighter texture.
  • 2 large eggs Whisked for breading.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Seasoned with spices.
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adjust to taste for milder flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying For frying the sticks.

Method

Preparation
  1. Cut the mozzarella sticks in half for easier handling if desired. Freeze them for about 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during frying.
  2. In one bowl, place the flour. In a second bowl, whisk the eggs. And in a third bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Take a mozzarella stick and dip it into the flour, then the egg, and finally coat it with the seasoned breadcrumbs. Press gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick well. Repeat this for all cheese sticks.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add a few sticks at a time, not overcrowding the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes.
  2. Remove the sticks and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

For added flavor, try substituting half of the all-purpose flour with cornstarch. If you prefer a milder taste, adjust the amount of cayenne pepper. Watch the frying carefully; overcooked sticks can become chewy.
