Preparation
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Add melted butter and eggs to the frothy yeast mixture. Pour this mix into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch the dough down once risen. Roll it out and cut into rounds, placing a spoonful of filling in the center of each. Pinch the edges to enclose the filling.
- Place the formed kolaches on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let the kolaches cool slightly before serving, enjoy them warm!
Notes
To ensure your kolaches turn out perfectly, consider using gluten-free flour or whole wheat flour; give dough enough rising time for better texture; and monitor baking time closely to prevent burning. Leftover kolaches can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to a month. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes.
